The results obtained by this test are useful in evaluating the ability of water-miscible metalworking fluids to prevent or minimize rust under specific conditions. Cast iron chips are placed in a petri dish with filter paper and diluted metalworking fluid. The dish is covered and left to stand overnight. The rust stain on the filter paper indicates the level of corrosion control offered by the fluid.
